"We help leaders become better marketersThank you to all who have helped to make 2007 a very good year for me and Morgan Marketing Solutions! I have been blessed with continued good health. My cardiologist gave me a thumbs up report last month. My wife and my immediate family are also doing well. Doris is recovering nicely from a minor surgery. Our two daughters and sons-in-laws, along with two grandsons and my wife's older brother and his wife will all enjoy Thanksgiving together with us this year. Soon after Thanksgiving, I know Doris will begin pulling the Christmas decorations out of storage and transforming the house into a 'holiday fantasyland!' I hope you and yours have a happy and stress-free Thanksgiving holiday.
You may have some leftover
turkey or chicken after your holiday feast. Please check my website,
under "Article Library," for Senor Morgan's Famous Tortilla Soup
recipe - version 2007. I made only minor changes in last year's
version because my recipe is so very near perfection. If you have not yet tasted
my tortilla soup, make plans to prepare some this holiday. You don't need
any entree, the soup will be your whole meal and you will sigh with pleasure
after partaking of my magical elixir. It will set you
free!
This year, I launched the NTX Private Business League. Development of the League's structure took more than eighteen months of planning. The League's objective is to link business owners who need professional services from time to time with a select group of experienced professionals who provide those services. Business owners gain impartial outside advice on their most pressing issues and they have access to the full array of professional services when, and if needed. I will update you in future letters as the NTX Private Business League gains traction. Contact me if you would like more information about the League.

On handling stress during the holidays
Marketing Facets - The Market Focused Guide to Company AnalysisOn handling stress during the holidays
The holiday season can be filled with much joy. Friends and relatives get
together to renew personal bonds and enjoy too much good food. It's the one time
of year when meals seem to demand dessert! I hope that you and yours have a safe, memorable,
and happy holiday!
This is also the time of year when many people experience high levels of
stress. The duties of hostess and host can be overwhelming. A couple used to
feeding just two, can be faced with dinner for twelve, plus four
children...EEEK! Then there are the mall struggles to find the right gifts and
the extra demands of holiday parties. It is no wonder we tend to get stressed
out this time of year. We remember the old tune that says, "stop and smell
the roses," but the lyrics often go unheeded amid the rush. "Maybe next
month, when things are back to normal," we promise ourselves. I had a heart attack and coronary bypass surgery nineteen years ago, just
before Thanksgiving. One of the probable causes of my attack was a high level of
stress. That episode made me reexamine my priorities and change many
habits...mostly bad habits. I have learned to take more time for 'decompression'
each day. I exercise on a regular basis at a club that also offers a hot tub,
sauna, steam room, and pool. I cherish the time I allow myself to soak and
relax. It gives me time to think and regain perspective. Do you plan time
each day where you can relax and screw your head back on straight? Another big change was in my diet. I try to avoid fatty foods most of the
time, and I watch my weight closer. I don't claim to be an angel...particularly
during this season, but once you get in the habit of eating lean, the fatty
foods don't have as much appeal. I avoid second helpings during the big holiday
feasts, but really enjoy the pumpkin pie. We usually make soup out of the
leftovers. Beside being delicious, the soup meals help balance out the large
holiday meals with our extended family. I think overeating creates stress,
amplifying the stress from large gatherings. Perhaps less food and an extra
glass of wine will help level things out, eh? The advice I got from my cardiologist was, "Don't sweat the little
things...and just about everything is a little thing." That is a tough
assignment for a devout, compulsive Type A, but I am improving. We generally
have the large holiday gatherings at our home. There is the effort to get the
house in shape for company. Then, there is the rush to clean up the mess after
everyone leaves! Doris and I work together on the preparations and our family
helps with the clean up campaign, so it becomes less of an individual burden. I
now have to remind her to slow down and not to sweat the little things!
Actually, I find enjoyment in helping with the chores, because you see
immediate results from your work. Much of what I do with clients takes time
before results occur. It's a nice change to dust a table and immediately admire
the shine. Try not to over-commit yourself this time of year. Instead, take time
to do some chores, decorate the house, or lose yourself for a few hours in a
good novel you have been wanting to read..."when you get the time." A final thought about priorities and stress reduction comes from one of my
favorite poets...Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy puts it this way in one of his
songs: "Oh yesterday's over my shoulder, so I can't look back for too
long. That's a good attitude to have all through the coming year. It is also a
great guideline for you and me during this hectic, happy holiday
season. Marketing Facets - The Market-focused
Guide to Company Analysis Marketing Facets is a practical
resource for those involved in determining the current health of a company and
gauging its future prospects. I designed my 103-page guidebook to be
a supplement to other evaluation procedures and information normally
gathered during a thorough due diligence or business valuation process. The
workbook takes a holistic approach, assembling facts and management assumptions
in key areas to help the analyst form and support
conclusions. Marketing Facets is a valuable
resource to private investment fund managers, individual investors, venture
capital specialists, investment banks, and valuation specialists.
Marketing Facets can also serve as a guide for C-level
executives who wish to perform their own company analysis as part of normal
business planning, or in advance of efforts to refinance, acquire or
divest. To
heavily indulge is to bulge! According to science, the third day of a diet is the easiest. By
then you are off of it. A
banker's son said, :"My dad went on a diet; there was too much collateral in his
blood! To
succeed on a diet do the opposite of a baseball player - stay away from the
plate. It's time to diet when you start puffing going
down the stairs!
There's just too much to see, waiting in front of me, and I know that I
just can't go wrong.
With these changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes,
nothing remains quite the same.
With all of my running, and all of my
cunning, if I couldn't laugh, I would just go insane."

Our ideal client
is a business owner or CEO between 30 and 60+ years old. Usually with a financial, engineering, or production background. Who is often impatient, and interested in improving company performance. Comes alive when you ask, "How's business?" He, or she, is practical but also enjoys the finer things in life. So, you may see my ideal client driving a Lexus, BMW, or SUV to Neiman Marcus...and to Sam's Club. Who do you know that fits this description?A client speaks: "During the past several years, I called on you to prepare detailed business overviews, year-end projections, and pro-forma forecasts. Your reports helped to better describe my company's operating results, account for the impact of product and market changes, and highlight growth opportunities. I continue to use the reviews during discussions with bankers and other interested parties. Recently, your business reviews were quite helpful as input when I commissioned a business valuation. I value your independent perspective and I will seek your objective advice in the future." Larry Kramer, Auto Designs, Inc. d/b/a Texas Auto Tops, Dallas, Texas
